MSX Pre-IPO Fund Bets Big on Neuralink and Anduril: From Brain Chips to Battlefields

AlexPanda

The email landed in my inbox at 6:47 AM Mexico City time. Subject line: "MSX Pre-IPO III adds Neuralink and Anduril." My first reaction? Not surprise. Not excitement. Just a cold, hard check of the numbers.

Neuralink. Three human patients. Zero commercial revenue. A valuation whisper of 80 to 100 billion dollars. Anduril. One billion in projected revenue. A valuation leap from 140 to 280 billion dollars in a single funding round. And now a private fund with a two-to-three-year exit horizon is betting on both.

This is not a story about brain chips or killer drones. This is a story about how the "narrative premium" is becoming the only asset class that matters in crypto-adjacent venture capital. And if you think this doesn't affect your portfolio, you are already behind.

The TL;DR verdict? MSX is not betting on technology. They are betting on the scarcity of the narrative. "Human augmentation" and "autonomous defense" are the two most extreme storylines in AI. And in a sideways market, scarcity of story is the only scarcity that gets a premium.

Let me break down what I am actually seeing here.

First, the Neuralink reality check. Based on my audit experience in the neural interface space, the fundamental challenge is not the surgery. The N1 chip's 1,024 channels is impressive engineering, but the real test is the long-term signal decay. We are talking about electrodes sitting in brain tissue, fighting glial scar formation. That is the enemy. The FDA's "breakthrough device" designation is a nice badge, but it does not erase the fundamental physics of biostability. The "CONVOY" feasibility study for controlling a robotic arm is a step forward, but it is still a proof-of-concept.

Meanwhile, Anduril. The Lattice platform is a fascinating case of "software-defined hardware." It is less about the drone or the submersible and more about the operating system that connects them. The Open AI partnership for counter-UAS is clever. The acquisition of Callum for a 1.3 to 1.4 billion dollar valuation signals a move to control the manufacturing loop. They are building a vertically integrated stack.

Here's the thing that the average crypto reader misses. The current market is a chop zone. And in a chop zone, capital flows to assets with hard narratives. Neuralink and Anduril are the purest expressions of that trend. Neuralink is the narrative of "human enhancement." Anduril is the narrative of "national security AI." MSX is a fund, but they are also collectors of narrative. They are buying the rarest pieces.

But here is the contrarian angle. The one the pitch decks do not show you. The one that keeps me up at night.

The same reason these are great narratives is the same reason they are terrible pre-IPO investments. The valuation curve is too steep. Anduril's 10x revenue growth is real, but the price-to-sales ratio is already at the top of the defense band. The market is paying for a future of 50 billion in revenue. Any stumble in Pentagon contracts, any slowdown in the geopolitical premium, and the multiple contracts with the violence of a bear market.

Neuralink is a different kind of trap. It is a zero-revenue company with a 100 billion dollar valuation. The only exit is an IPO or a mega-acquisition. If the FDA timeline slips, the fund's lock-up period might extend past the fund's life. The risks are correlated. If the "AI bubble" pops, both of these companies suffer.

But here is the deeper problem. The one that no one in the MSX chat is talking about. These companies are not really blockchain companies. Why is a crypto fund investing in brain implants and defense tech? The answer is that they are betting on the underlying commodity: computation and autonomy. This is the "re-industrialization of the digital."

It is a smart macro play. But it is a dangerous micro play for the investors who were promised 3x to 5x returns on token-adjacent assets. The correlation is with the Nasdaq, not with the altcoin market.

So, what is the takeaway? What is the next watch?

Watch the FDA. Watch the Pentagon. But most importantly, watch the narrative. If the general tech market starts to bleed, the "premium for the story" will be the first thing to be priced out. MSX has placed a massive bet on the idea that the story will become the reality. That is the bet that the only thing that matters is the future. And I hope for their LPs' sake, the future is as good as the story.

The block time for this trade is not zero. The panic level is not one hundred. But the distance between the story and the earnings report is a gap that would swallow a Swiss bank.

I am not saying it is a bad bet. I am saying it is a bet on the most volatile asset in the world: human confidence. And in the crypto world, we have seen what happens when confidence breaks. It breaks fast. Keep your eyes on the charts.
